Dante's Peak

The amount of screen time allotted for special effects and the awakening of a none too sleepy volcano make a poor excuse for a movie. Pierce Brosnan as the unbonded scientist whose wife died in a previous explosion and Linda Hamilton as the single mother of a child with a dog who is even more on the run than usual from this giant smoke- emanating, flame-throwing terminator. You'd think she'd never seen a pyroclastic cloud before.
